One Month ....GONE!!

Kia Ora
Wow....you blink and you miss - time is flying! We have had a great week despite winter coming back to visit a couple of months early!

We are gearing up for camp...three weeks to go. We will be meeting parents next week, the day has changed to Wednesday at 5pm and an email will go out to parents today to notify of the changes.

This week we went back to South Otago High School to help the Year 13's with their sport and leadership lessons - the games were amazing and kept the students warm on a cold day. Great to see such good sportsmanship and encouragement for their team mates too.

I really love spending time up in the senior playground watching everyone sharpen up their skills on play equipment. The monkey bars seem to be hugely popular at the moment and their is no limit to what some children will do on these bars - some days you just want to look away - they have no fear and keep trying to master different skills. Apart from the occasional blister, I've yet to see anyone hurt themselves, although I do shut my eyes sometimes! It is great, healthy fun!

It has been a great week!
Awesome ball games!

A bit of Touch on a cold day!

Three Weeks Gone Already!!!

Where did THAT time go??? We have been doing a lot of reading this week. As a class, we are reading the book "Refugee" by Alan Gratz. This book is the Chapter Chat Book for Term 1 so more than 100 Year 7 and 8 classes around New Zealand are reading this novel. We will join many of them online via Twitter on Friday morning to discuss the book so far. This story follows three young refugee children; Josef (from 1939 Germany), Isobel (from 1994 Cuba) and Mahmoud (from 2015 Syria). So far the class are really enjoying this novel and it is available for purchase through the latest Scholastic Book Club!

We were lucky enough yesterday (Thursday) to go across to the High School and take part in a fantastic physical education lesson run by the Year 13 students. I have never seen such enthusiasm (or sweaty kids) like I did yesterday. We will return there again next week! Athletics training continues this week as we gear up for the Athletics Day on Wednesday 21st February.

Our class is also complete this week as today we welcome back Alec Mills, our missing Year 8 student who has been traveling in Europe. I look forward to hearing about his trip!

Week 2 - Done and Dusted!!!

Wow....time has gone so fast  - Week 2 has gone already! We had a short week as we celebrated Waitangi Day. Students were able to get online this week and find interesting information about Waitangi Day and its significance. They came up with some great information such as over 500 chiefs signed the Treaty.

This week we also explored Collective Nouns. Students were in fits of laughter when they found out that you could have ...

  • A pickle of Porcupines
  • A Tower of Giraffes
  • An Army of Frogs
  • A Circus of Puffins
This week we will begin reading a book called "Refugee" by Alan Gratz and then take part in Chapter Chat, which is a collective project throughout New Zealand. Our students will get to share their ideas and thoughts on this book with more than a  hundred other Year 7/8 classes around the country via Twitter. The account is set up and monitored by teachers, so be assured that students will not be using social media on their own!!

It was great to meet so many parents and share thoughts, ideas and goals with them about their child's education. For those few who have been unable to attend, please get in touch and we can make a time to suit to get these important goals set and to share how we can best meet your child's needs.

Rosebank School will also be taking part in the Kelloggs promotion at New World. Check out our Facebook Page for information! The more you shop, the more books we can get - who doesn't like that??
